the Dallas Explosion Announces “Depression is a fulltime job EP” as their first official release.
Produced by Englishman Mike Butcher (the sound behind Black Sabbath's "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath", Arno's "A la Francaise" or Marvin Gaye's "Sexual Healing") and mastered by Alan Ward, the 5 tracks from "Depression is a fulltime job EP" are the perfect combination of modern and post retro ways of cutting music in a 21st century world: 60's influences, real musicianship, not following any trend or popular genres of the moment (also known as "hype" ), metaphoric lyrics attempting to compare women, love and men with " heaters" , "a sea of fire " and "loveboat captains ".
Don't see "Depression is a fulltime job EP" as another EP = 1 single + 4 shitty songs not worth being on a future LP throw to the audience to make them wait for the real thing but take it as a what they used to call a "super single" back in the sixties. What you hear is what you get: a "beautiful collection of songs" that have soul and smell good (in no particular order): beers, analogue equipments, vintage guitars, sweat, backward grand piano, great sex, prohibited substances and most of all, dirty love.
Artist Profile:
The Dallas Explosion doesn’t follow any trend because:
• They don’t come from New-York City so they’re not “garage rock”
• They can play their instruments so they’re not “grunge/punk”
• They like to have a good time on stage so they’re not “emo/indie”
• They usually stand pretty far from any computer or drum machine so they’re not “electro”
• They write their own songs, can’t dance and don’t do lip-syncing so they’re not a boy band
• They don’t wear baggy and they don’t do rap mixed with heavy guitars so they’re not nu metal
If you would have to describe what they do, I guess you could think of ZZ Top (1969->1979 era) playing covers of the Velvet Underground on Red Hot Chilli Peppers’ amplifiers. Then you would add a very very very slight touch of every style mentioned above and you’ll probably end up with 50% of what the Dallas Explosion is about. Sorry! That’s all we can say, the rest is up to your imagination…
To make things worse:
They’ve already played with artists such as: Willy DeVille (5sold out gigs throughout the Netherlands, blues/folk/Americana), The Killers (indie rock), Eagle-Eye Cherry (commercial pop-rock), Monster Magnet (stoner rock), The Stranglers (punk), Millionaire (Belgium’s finest stoner groove rock), the Herbalisers (electro), Bush (alternative), Travis (pop), Toob (aka Red Snapper) or Hood (minimalist pop)
Do them a favour: Listen with your own ears
